Sorry pg, my mistake, my reply was aimed at Taco but I didn't see his signature the first time.

:If you did the standard teTeX install as outlined on this page, then, after the <tt>texexec --make</tt>, the directory <tt>/root/.texmf-var/web2c/</tt> (and its subfolder <tt>pdfetex</tt>) contains the generated formats. If this is not the case, then your system simply does not match what I described (and assumed) on this Wiki page. In that case, perhaps we should continue this discussion on the mailing list (easier to have a dialog there).
:You should check the 'used engineformatpath' message from <tt>texexec</tt>. Mine said:
