Talk:TeTeX 3.0 installation

In the section entitled Install the zip archive towards the end of the page, the line

cp -a /root/.texmf-var/web2c/* /usr/local/teTeX/share/texmf-var/web2c

contains the hard-coded path /root/.texmf-var/web2c which is not explained. Could you clarify where I should be looking for the .texm-var/web2c folder and its contents please?

• You should be doing all of the installation as root, and therefore it should be in the folder /root, since that is root's home directory. Taco

I didn't read that section on the page, but on OS X for example, root's home is at /var/root (which is not really relevant, since on OS X nobody ever uses that) --pg

Can't locate .texmf-var folder

Thanks for the answer pg but I did perform the installation as root and looked in the /root folder but there was no folder named .texmf-var. What is this folder supposed to contain exactly? I hope these questions do not seem too stupid for words :)

If you did the standard teTeX install as outlined on this page, then, after the texexec --make, the directory /root/.texmf-var/web2c/ (and its subfolder pdfetex) contains the generated formats. If this is not the case, then your system simply does not match what I described (and assumed) on this Wiki page. In that case, perhaps we should continue this discussion on the mailing list (easier to have a dialog there).

You should check the 'used engineformatpath' message from texexec. Mine said:

 used engineformatpath : /root/.texmf-var/web2c/pdfetex/
