remove gwTeX; it's too outdated by now, remove instructions how to change the engine from tetex to something else (it is outdated, even though it might need a rewrite)
==Minimal ConTeXt==

The "ConTeXt minimals" distribution is the recommended way to use ConTeXt on any OS.
For a Mac tutorial see the mac section under [[ConTeXt_MinimalsConTeXt Minimals]]
==MacTeX==
 A straightforward way to to install ConTeXt on MacOSX Mac OS X is via the [http://www.tug.org/mactex/ MacTeX] distribution. The distribution includes [http://www.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop/ TeXShop]and TeXworks editors, TeX Live Utility for managing updates, and many other goodies. It is highly recommended to use at least MacTeX version 2011.
* [http://www.tug.org/mactex/ Download and follow the instructions] (if you have a broad bandwith internet connection)
* or download and install a '''TeXlive''' image from the web.
==gwTeX / i-InstallerTeXshop and TeXwokrs==Before MacTeX, the best way to use ConTeXt on Mac has been [http://ii2.sourceforge.net/tex-index.html gwTeX] via [http://ii2.sourceforge.net Gerben Wierda's i-Installer] so far.* download [http://ii2.sourceforge.net i-Installer] and check the "known packages"* install the TeXlive tree* install the ConTeXt beta
HoweverTypically, it is <b>not supported any more</b> since January 2007both editors work out of the box, which means that but if you are using version earlier than those shipped with MacTeX 2011 (TeXShop 2.42) you cannot post bug reports or feature requests need to the author any more, but configure engines for ConTeXt updates are still available and it works as expectedmanually.
If you have an ancient installation, you should replace the teTeX-based variant with TeXLive-based one:* uninstall both <i>"gwTeX Support: ConTeXt updater"</i> (<code>context-update.ii2</code>) and <i>"DEPRECATED gwTeX based on teTeX"</i> (<code>tex.ii2</code>)* install <b>"gwTeX based on TeXLive"</b> (<code>texlive.ii2</code>) and <i>"ConTeXt updater"</i> again==More Links==

Typically, It works out of the box, also on Intel-based Mac. Nevertheless, it has been reported that you may need to configure the TeX engine after installation as reported below:

"I went to preferences&rarr;engine and in the top box, filled in what it said in the brackets (i.e. <tt>/usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current</tt> not <tt>/usr/texbin</tt> as was shown for some reason as the default). Note also that I did this on a powerbook G4 on Feb 11, 2007."

Also, if you plan to use XeTeX, take a look at the [[XeTeX#MacOSX:_using_TeXShop | XeTeX]] page for some hints related to TeXshop.
