Welcome to the Macintosh! Nowadays it's not a big difference how to use TeX on MacOS or any other Unix.== Introduction ==
==Minimal For getting ConTeXt==The "ConTeXt minimals" MkIV onto a Mac there are basically two routes to take. MacTeX (TeXLive distribution is made especially for Mac OSX) and the ConTeXt Suite (Standalone), recommended way to use for all those that want the most current versions or latest developments in ConTeXt on any OS.For a Mac tutorial see the mac section under ConTeXt_Minimals
==MacTeX==A straightforward way to to install ConTeXt on MacOSX is via the MacTeX distribution. The distribution includes TeXShopNaturally, there are other ways, but they are more for experienced Mac users and many many other goodiesthose comfortable with using the command line.
* Download and follow The simplest method is to use MacTeX, but as this is essentially TeXLive you will not have the instructions most recent binaries (if you have generally frozen for a broad bandwith internet connectionyear).* You The advantage is that you get TeX et al, fonts and some nice utilities, including the editor TeXShop (highly recommended) which can also ConTeXt and TeX-Variants from within the editor without any knowledge of the command line.org/texlive/acquire.html buy a TeXlive DVD * ConTeXt Suite (if you are a member of a TeX user group you often get it Standalone) is recommended for free)those that wish to have the latest stable version, latest developmental version,* or download wish to run several versions of ConTeXt side by side. The downside to the side by side approach is that you need some knowledge of how to use the command line and install how to set-up the paths in a TeXlive image from the webUnix environment.
==gwTeX / i-InstallerMacTeX ==Before MacTeX, the best way to use ConTeXt on Mac has been gwTeX via Gerben Wierda's i-Installer so far.* download i-Installer and check the "known packages"* install the TeXlive tree* install the ConTeXt beta
HoweverThe easiest way to install ConTeXt on Mac OSX is to use the the MacTeX distribution. MacTeX is a TeXLive distribution modified especially for use on Mac OSX. It will install every thing you need to run ConTeXt, TeX, LaTeX, Xe(La)TeX, it's <b>not supported any more<along with the editors since January 2007texshop/ TeXShop and TeXWorks, which means that you cannot post bug reports or feature requests to the author any moreTeX Live Utility for managing updates, but ConTeXt updates are still available fonts and it works as expectedmany other goodies.
As MacTeX is a TeXLive distribution all binaries are generally frozen for a year. If you wish to have an ancient installation, a more current version or the latest beta version of ConTeXt you should replace consider, also installing the teTeX-based variant with TeXLive-based one:* uninstall both <i>"gwTeX Support: ConTeXt updater"</i> (<code>context-update.ii2</code>) and <i>Suite"DEPRECATED gwTeX based on teTeXoften called "</i> (<code>tex.ii2</code>)* install <b>"gwTeX based on TeXLiveStandalone ConTeXt"</b> (<code>texlive.ii2</code>) and <i>"ConTeXt updater"</i> again
==TeXshop==Typically, It works out of the box, also on Intel-based Mac. Nevertheless, it has been reported that After installing MacTeX all you may need to configure do is set up TeXShop to use ConTeXt, see the TeX engine after installation as reported below:TeXShop page.
"I went to preferences&rarr;engine and in the top box, filled in what it said in the brackets (i.e. <tt>/usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current</tt> not <tt>/usr/texbin</tt> as was shown for some reason as the default). Note also that I did this on a powerbook G4 on Feb 11, 2007."=== Installing MacTeX ===
Also* Download and follow the instructions from the MacTeX site (Installer larger than 2GB, instructions for slower internet connections on the site of MacTeX) * You can also buy a TeXLive DVD (if you plan are a member of a TeX user group you often get it for free). ==Standalone ConTeXt== The new LMTX distribution is also able to use XeTeXrun MkIV files. See Installation or Installing ConTeXt LMTX on MacOS for details. == Configuring ConTeXt-Aware Editors on the Mac == Typically, most editors work out of the box with MacTeX, take but if you are using a look at version earlier than those shipped with MacTeX 2011 (TeXShop 2.42), or if you would like to use the Standalone distribution (ConTeXt Suite), you need to configure engines for ConTeXt manually. * TeXShop* XeTeXTeXworks* Texpad* BBEdit* TextMate page for some hints related to  == Skim (PDF viewer) == Unless you are using TeXshopor TeXworks with built-in viewers, the recommended PDF viewer with SyncTeX support and auto-refresh on Mac OS X is Skim== More Links ==
