: How about creating a simple field like "Write `Context' in the textbox" for registeration. It will make it slightly more difficult for the bots, and is not too difficult to implement --[[User:Adityam|Aditya]]
:: if someone sends me a patch against the current mediawiki software... I'd be happy to apply it to this wiki. BTW: I have blocked the IP-address from where the last stupid edits came from (thanks, Taco, for reverting all those edits). (69.205.189.198) ::: There are two options (1) Do not allow user to change anything without loggin in. One can create a pretty vague loginid if he/she wants to remain anonymous. See [http://test.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page] You need to create an account to change data and ceate new account gives you a captcha. I do not have any experience of managing wikimedia. But from what I have read on its documentations, it is possible to disable anonymous edits [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Preventing_Access#Disable_anonymous_edits]. However this goes against the spirit of wikis in general.(2) When a person has not logged in, give him a captcha or a value to fill in a form. This should be doable manually. The easiest way that I can think of is to check the word with javascript before actually submitting data. Another way can be to check it within the php script (Don't know enough php to see how to do this). ::: So my question basically boils down to this. Is disabling anonymous post and requiring login (with a captcha) not an option? If so, I will play around with authentication in webforms a little and get back with more specific suggestions. --[[User:Adityam|Aditya]] :::: Actually, I went through all the recent changes, and it was vandalism rather than spam. I do not think that there is any way to stop a delibrate deletion of content by a user. ::::: In forum software it is not abnormal to see a system where the first X posts of a user require approval by a moderator. That would work nicely against this sort of vandalism, but I do not have even a remote idea how that would work out on a wiki. [[User:Taco|Taco]] :::::: Somehow I still think that the best solution is to continue using the spam-blacklist and manual vandalism reverting. In my opinion, this is not that much of a deal. --[[User:Patrick Gundlach|pg]] == GIFs == Is it forbidden to upload GIFs? I wanted to upload one for the Animation page (I'm not sure if that's a good idea anyway; it would be used to get a feeling of what approximately Adobe Reader is capable to do/limited to). I get a warning ".gif" is not a recommended image file format., but then nothing happened any further. --Thanks, [[User:Mojca Miklavec|Mojca]] = Comments on [[Main Page]] =Please add a link to the 'thrid party pagereally''': Already there, but Hans got confused about its name. Left-side menu, in like the middle new look of 'garden', you see 'third party modules'. That is the correct page, but a nice upload interface is currently still missing. wiki! --[[User:TacoBraslau|TacoAlan]]

Mojca recently asked Under the 'News', it should be - On January 2, 2021 (in the changelog& not 2020) for comments on the reorganization , availability of the [[Main Page]]. It looks quite good to me, overall. The "how A not so short introduction to edit a Wiki pageConTeXt" should probably link to the existing v1.6 by Joaquín Ataz-López --[[HelpUser:EditingRamkumarkb|Ramkumar]] page, or perhaps directly to MediaWiki's Help:Editing page.
I do think a couple of the section headings should be changed. "Tips:fixed, Tricks, and Hacks" is becoming a storehouse of actual documentation as well as just small "tricks", and the name should reflect thatthanks [[User:Taco|Taco]] ([[User talk:Taco|talk]]) 08: something like "ConTeXt Documentation and How-To", maybe. "Help & Guidelines" should be "Wiki Help & Guidelines"59, so as to distinguish it from "ConTeXt help".13 January 2021 (CET)
It may also be useful to put "short explanations" next to the links, much as I've been doing in the [[From LaTeX to = General ConTeXt]] page. --[[User:Brooks|Brooks]] 02:49, 4 Sep 2005 (UTC) : Brooks, you wrote too much today ;) ! You cannot expect people to read all your comments!!! (I didn't even notice your posting here until I wanted to add something).
Yes, "How to edit a Wiki page" should certainly be merged with [[Help:Editing]]. I forgot that this page ever existed as it somehow disappeared from my view. [[Help:Contents]] should ugently be changed as well. (Feel free to do it.) : I thought that "Help & Guidelines" could be used for guidelines about writing to the mailing list as well, but it's true that it should be distinguished from ConTeXt help. I agree to add comments next to links (but what comments?).
Also, quite some stuff is still missing on the main page, the "Main ConTeXt Documentation and HowTo-s" needs to be reorganized and Categories should be defined, so that we can start categorizing the majority of pages (I had no idea what Categories to define for pages under "Visuals", "Structurals", "Inside ConTeXt" (which should probably better be defined as "Programming" or something similar), ...). Quite some "secondary pages" are missing (connecting the first page and actual articles, just like your [[From LaTeX to ConTeXt]], one page with [[Links]] is certainly missing). : Despite the generally accepted decision to lock the first page, I hope that I'm not violating the rules too much if I unlock it for two days (sorry, Patrick), so that you can improve it by yourself if you want. If anyone spams the first page in the meantime, I take the responsibility to remove the spam from it (as soon as I come online).:--[[User:Mojca Miklavec|Mojca]] 19:37, 4 Sep 2005 (UTC):: No problem at all, go ahead and feel free to unlock it. BTW: I really like the look of the new page, but I still need some time to make real comments --[[User:Patrick Gundlach|pg]] 10:55, 5 Sep 2005 (UTC)Questions =
:: Thanks! This is not the place to ask general questions about ConTeXt. I think I'll make If you have a copy of longer question, the best thing to do with it is create a new page (see [[Main PageHelp:Editing]]for how to do that) with a description of the problem, and put the special text
<nowiki>{{howto}}</nowiki>
in it, which will cause it in to be listed on the [[Main Page SandboxCategory:How to]], so I can muck about with some organizational ideas without affecting the "live" version until they're finishedpage. I was going to say If you have a short question that we could delete is appropriate for the [[Main Page SandboxFAQ]] after we're done, but you can add it might be useful there, and leave the answer blank. If you have a question that you wish to leave it up discuss, the best place for future things like thisthat is the [http://www.ntg. -nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context ConTeXt mailing list] or the "Discussion" page associated with a particularly relevant Wiki page, though you can also use the [[UserTalk:BrooksFAQ|BrooksFAQ's "Talk" page]] 23:09, 4 Sep 2005 (UTC)if there's not an obvious choice.
:: Another idea for handling the main page, as far as editing goes -- see [http://sandbox.contextgarden.net/Brooks's_Sandbox_Two|This Page on the Sandbox]. There's no actual content on the page; it's all in a pair of templates. That page could then be locked, but people could still edit the templates and change the content, so long as they knew which templates to edit. I don't know how smart the spammers are, but it ought to at least block the lazy and/or automatic ones. --[[User:Brooks|Brooks]] 00:08, 5 Sep 2005 (UTC)= History =
