Hi,

I'm Frank Küster, one of the Debian TeX maintainers. I have edited this page, because it contained some very dangerous advice (replacing files in /usr/bin or /usr/share/texmf*, although better mechanisms are available). This is a very important change, it already caused a bogus release-critical bug to be reported against the tetex-bin package in Debian.

There's more doubtful advice (the stuff about format recreation by fmtutil). If the problems described there still exist, please report that to the Debian BTS. But I don't think they do.
