use ctxtools not texexec to check version
== Finished! ==
That should do it! The output of
texexec ctxtools --versioncontextversion
(run as you, not as root) is hopefully like this:

TeXExec 5CtxTools | context version: 2007.401.3 - ConTeXt 02 13:44 (/usr/ PRAGMA ADE 1997-2005 texexec : TeXExec 5.4.3 - ConTeXt share/ PRAGMA ADE 1997-2005 texutil : TeXUtil 9.0.0 - ConTeXt texmf/ PRAGMA ADE 1992-2004 tex : pdfeTeXk, 3/context/base/context.141592-1.30.4-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.5tex) CtxTools | context version: ver: 20052007.1001.27 02 13:44 (/usr/share/texmf/tex/context/base/cont-en : ver: 2005new.10.27 fmt: 2005.11.1 mes: englishtex)

The long path to context.tex and cont-new.tex show where the system thinks the context macros are installed. Make sure your installation is finding those versions.
